Domaine Boyar was the first private wine-producing company after the fall of the communist regime in Bulgaria in 1989. It was founded in 1991 and started operating in Sofia and in London simultaneously. Over the course of several years it became a leading producer and the most significant company to trade Bulgarian wines on the largest and most prestigious global markets.

Today, Domaine Boyar continues to be a leader in the export of quality Bulgarian wines. The company’s key markets are the UK, Benelux, USA, Canada, Asia and the Scandinavian countries.

In the last five years, Domaine Boyar has significantly expanded its portfolio, becoming one of the biggest importers of prestigious world wine brands. The cellar is a partner of the world’s largest wine companies such as Constellation Brands, Accolade Wines,  Barton & Guestier, etc.

Domaine Boyar has two cellars – “Sinite Skali”, which is one of the largest wineries in Europe, and the boutique winery of “Korten”.

The winery “Sinite Skali” is situated close to the natural landmark Blue Rocks, in the foothills of Stara Planina mountain, which gave its name. The Thracian Plain region, where it is located, is renowned for the production of high quality red wines. The new winery opens on 16th September 1999, with impressive processing capacity of 16 million litres. A symbol of contemporary Bulgarian wine, “Sinite Skali” is one of the most modern wineries in Eastern and Central Europe. It is realized with an investment of 30 million euro and operates with state-of-the-art winemaking technology.

Fermentation took place over 10 – 12 days in a combination of open and static fermenters. The temperature was closely monitored to ensure the wine retains its natural fruit expression. New and older French and American oak was used for the maturation of selected wine parcels over a period of 13 months. These parcels were put together from our family estate to best demonstrate the depth and character of our fruit, balanced by integrated oak.
